How to get funding from family

how to get money

In my second year at the University, bead necklaces had just started reigning, and I really wanted to learn how to make them, but I did not have the money to afford the class. I talked to my mum and she paid for my classes.

Immediately after I graduated from the University, wire jewelry was now reigning, and I really wanted to learn how to make them. I remember that the fee was N30,000 and I could not afford it. This time, I talked to my aunty and she paid the tuition fee for me.

As I look back now, it’s not as if my mother or aunty did not have something else to do with money, there were so many other things they had to pay for and craft lessons were not exactly a priority. It’s not as if we were super rich, and I could just demand for anything and they would just immediately bring out their cheque book and hand me the money easily. There must have been something I was doing right. I realized that I had learnt the fine art of getting funding for your projects/ideas.

I am going to break it down for you with these key points:

1. It’s their money, they don’t have to give it to you, it’s not your right, so you have to make them see why they should give it to you
2. Tell them what is in it for them. What do they stand to gain if they sponsor your project/idea
3. Do your homework. Find out everything you need to know about the project/idea. If they ask you a question, you should be able to answer it.
4. If however you can’t answer the question, don’t say “I don’t know”, say something like, “I will get back to you with the answer before the end of the day

If you have been thinking of taking ST Colours A-School Courses and you don’t have the money to do it on your own, and you probably need to convince your father/mother/husband/aunty/uncle/cousin/brother/sister etc. I have created a “How to get funding from family” guide to prepare you as you approach them to fund you.
